Motorola Razr promised to get Android 11 and more feature updates, Android 10 rolling out now

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Motorola is rolling out the Android 10 update for the Razr in India.
  • The Motorola Razr is also said to be getting the Android 11 update.
  • Motorola has also promised more feature enhancement updates.

The Motorola Razr has gone on sale a week ago and if you have the means to buy it, you should get one. The Razr is one of the few folding phones in India you can buy. It is also a stunning looking phone, with a design that is easily second to none. The specifications may not be cutting edge but Motorola offers a clean Android user experience on it. The Razr launched with Android 9 and as of writing this, the phone is getting the Android 10 update.

However, Motorola is not stopping there. In a recent note to the press, Motorola has announced that the Razr will continue to get software support beyond the Android 10 update. There will be a couple of feature updates and rollout. What’s even better is that Motorola has confirmed Android 11 update for the Razr. The Android 11 update is officially expected to release this September for Google phones.

“In addition to a second OS upgrade, we’ll continue to frequently update & monitor essential applications via the Google Play Store, allowing us to quickly improve the user experience without waiting for an OS upgrade,” says Motorola in its official statement.

This surely comes as a piece of good news for potential buyers of the Motorola Razr. However, for a premium phone costing upwards of Rs 1 lakh, Motorola should have offered extended software support for at least three years. The Razr launched with Android 9 at a time when other phone makers were launching phones with Android 10 onboard.

Moreover, the Razr has gone on sale in India in mid-2020 and for a premium phone launched in this time period, it should be supported with at least for the next two years of software support.

That said, the Android 10 update has increased the productivity on the Motorola Razr. Motorola has added a bunch of new features for the external 2.7-inch display which now lets users reply to messages, take photos, dial contacts and take selfies. Razr users can also access Google Maps’ turn-by-turn navigation cards on the outer display rather opening the phone every time.

Motorola has also added a bunch of customisation options for the Razr, allowing users to apply themes to both the outer and inner display. Icon customisations, as well as several other UI tweaks, are allowed with the Android 10 update too, similar to the Motorola Edge+, a phone that’s coming to our markets on May 19.

The Razr is currently on sale on Flipkart at a price of Rs 1,24,999. Motorola is only selling the Noir Black colour variant of the Razr and there’s no information whether the Gold option is going to make it to our market.
